About Safepay

Trade safely with strangers.

Safepay exists so strangers can transact safely.

Our story

Why we started

Safepay began the way most people's distrust of online shopping in Nigeria begins, with a transfer that shouldn't have been sent.

For our founder, it was an Instagram vendor with a polished page, glowing comments, and a phone that never arrived, then an accessory that looked nothing like the photos, then a friend who paid a "pre-order deposit" to a WhatsApp seller who simply stopped replying. Around him, the same story kept repeating with different faces, everyone had either been burned or knew someone who had. And once the money left, it was gone.

What struck him wasn't just the losses. It was that everyone kept trading anyway because Instagram and WhatsApp are where commerce actually happens in Nigeria. Millions of honest vendors and buyers doing real business, one screenshot and a prayer away from being cheated.

That gap is what Safepay was built to close. No new app, no new habit. Just money that can't move until both sides keep their word.

It's live today. And every deal it protects is one less version of that story.
